I'm glad I'm not the only one who notice the scam profiles on the site. I've been on/off the site for about 2 years. First off there are some 'real' people on the site.
So this isn't for the 'real' people on there but there are a number of fraud and fake profiles it's unbelievable. Most of them are prob from Nigeria mostly. They make a profile nice picture and say they reside in XYZ, USA. Then come to find out after a email or chat they are from Nigeria etc.
And yes, the dangerous ones can be the ones that will lead you on to some 'emergency' that leads you to lending them money. It's sad who really knows who's really behind all of this. When I notice a fake profile I try to report it. I just think of that potential victim man/female I don't want anyone to be duped.
I guess it just takes some experience looking for key words, or simply read their profile. You can get a sense of a real profile by just writing a complete profile.
What I learn on there if it's too good to be true it's probably not.
