I thought this site would be okay given that Cupid Media has other reputable sites. However, my experiences are 100% negative and I wouldn't recommend this site to anyone.
When I joined, I received dozens of messages before my profile pics were approved. That was the first clue.
If I reply to a message from a woman, asking for some information about herself, I am consistently asked to move the conversation off the site to imo, WhatsApp, email or skype. They do this because they are going to ask for money and if they do it on site they will get reported and booted.
The women tell you over and over again that they are serious and a one-man woman and a long litany of other motherhood but never actually tell you any facts about themselves or their life other than repeating a few stats from their profile (single, 5'6, etc.). This is of course because they are simply following a script designed to eventually ask for money and don't have the wit or motivation to even lie convincingly.
Common sense suggests that like myself there must be a few women on that site that are sincerely looking for a partner (1%?). But how would I ever find them? Every time I log in, there are dozens of new messages waiting for me from scammers. The awkward design of the site requires that I take a few minutes to deal with a single message. Chances are that I will be so frustrated by the time I come across a message from a serious woman, it will be tossed out like the baby with the bath water. And there is no point sending me interest, I get so much interest from scammers that a legitimate woman's interest will scroll off the bottom of the list within an hour and be lost.
And here's the very best part. :) This site includes a feature that allows a scammer to delete the entire history of messages she (probably he) has exchanged with me, leaving no trace. So that means that if they fail to scam me today, they can try me again tomorrow with a fresh slate.
This is not the first dating site I've tried. None are perfect. But most get the job done and would get 3 or 4 stars out of 5 from me. This however is a zero star site and a total waste of money.
PS I contacted site management and asked for suggestions to help me wade through all of the scammers more efficiently and zero in on the few legitimate members. They didn't get back to me.
I am registered on "Christian cupid", and I found someones profile on there of interest to me, so I added that person to my favourites list. It said that this person is from Hong Kong. Shortly after that I received an email from the supposed person. To read this email I needed to become a paid user. The cheapest amount was $39.98. So, I paid and read the email. The email said, "Hey :) thx for adding me as ur favorite while the time I was in 'your city' indeed lol (a week ago)". In the 'your city' part, the name of my city was used. Anyway, I replied back to the email on the 23rd of January, but I haven't received a reply yet. I decided to do a google search to try and find more information on this 'person'. After searching for her profile name, "Kevina", and the place in Hong Kong where she is supposedly from, "Tuen Mun:, New Territories, "Hong Kong", I found a similar profile on many of the 'cupid' group of dating sites, in a few different languages (Spanish, German), even though the profile doesn't mention that she speaks any other language apart from English. Also, there was major differences in the member overview description between the Christian one and the non christian ones. There were some minor differences in the personal details (for example, height, weight etc). I suspect that this is one way the dating website group gets people to pay for membership. To see the pages use the search string "kevina tuen mun hong kong". But I guess that once they find out this post is online, they will quickly remove or change that profile. I hope I can warn people about this site/group of sites.

So this review is going to be broadly positive about IE hence will be dismised by some as sponsored promotion - it's not. I'm a male from London who's been using IE on and off over the last 4 years. Negatives first: it is indeed expensive; the attempts to hook you in after creating a profile (but before paying up) by random obviously system-generated hellos from specious profiles is extremely annoying (but you learn to ignore these and it does seem to have eased up thankfully of late); the time-pressure on male members to secure a date/relationship within the fee window skews the playing field; and the membership claims are obviously wildly inflated (I agree that the active membership at any one time can be numbered in the hundreds not thousands).
All that said...I have had 5 paid memberships on IE at 6-9 month intervals since 2013. On every one of these I have had several "dates" following correspondence on the site and on every one also I have entered into at least one physical relationship, typically more than one. Of course not every correspondence leads anywhere, any more than on any other dating/adult site, and again as everywhere else it's a "seller's" market for women. But from my expeience, if you compose an engaging profile, write a decent email (tailored to the recipient, not cut and paste) and are prepared to cast your net widely IE does in fact work. (If you're outside a metropolitan area, as others have noted, it's ound to be more difficult.)
Also, final note: unlike Ashley Madison (and we all know what happened there!), IE allows anonymous cash payments which given the nature of the site is a considerable plus.

I have paid over MYR 5000 to join the Lunch Actually membership. The initial consultation was friendly and the lady assure me that I will have a lot of match. When I sign the contract, it is written three matches. She says it will be more but contractually they put three to assure there is minimum three dates. This is a lie. It is nearly a year of my membership and they only arranged two dates. There is quite a lot of staff turnover and two that contacted me was no more working there. It leave me hanging who I should liase with. You only get a date when you question and push them for it. This is unreasonable for a large amount of money for just two dates for me for now. The forums were full of vicious comments, arguments and bullying, and people have reported the same about the chat room. The profile activity is questionable, even when making allowances for the nature of the clientele, who may be hesitant or less confident about communicating. Many users simply won't reply to messages, and those that do may use terms or language that 'don't seem quite right' for the geographical area they are supposed to be from. The majority of users appear to be from the USA. It is not unusual to be one of only about 10 users online at any one time.

Review about Lunch ActuallyI have paid over MYR 5000 to join the Lunch Actually membership. The initial consultation was friendly and the lady assure me that I will have a lot of match. When I sign the contract, it is written three matches. She says it will be more but contractually they put three to assure there is minimum three dates. This is a lie. It is nearly a year of my membership and they only arranged two dates. There is quite a lot of staff turnover and two that contacted me was no more working there. It leave me hanging who I should liase with. You only get a date when you question and push them for it. This is unreasonable for a large amount of money for just two dates for me for now. Note that you get better match in other platforms. Do avoid.

Review about JapanCupid.comI've been a member of Japan Cupid and koreancupid on and off for about a year-and-a-half now. Honestly there scammers and egotistical individuals on both sites. I think someone else here said it best... online dating can be very unforgiving. the best thing is look at it as one just way of meeting new people/making friends. If this is your only way of meeting new people, you're bound to be disappointed. You're going to run into scammers, fake profiles, Knuckleheads that can't read and people that don't fit what it is you might be specifically looking for. I made the mistake of " locking in " on "types" and profile photos...only to be disappointed..and realizing it was really my fault. Besides the fact that men are usually "chasing" and women are "choosing" in real life...and the virtual world...most women aren't reading many of the emails they receive anyway... either because there are just too many or they are dissatisfied with the responses. With everything going on there it just pays to have an open mind...and if you meet someone cool with similar interests, even if you just end up being friends, it's still a good thing.

Was told some of my photos I tried to add were not clear and blurry however some photos I'very seen on women's profiles were even more blurry. Rules for photos are applied inconsistently.
Also I've noticed that I've gotten more responses and emails sent to my profile near the end or after my subscription has ended. The website's way of trying to get you to pay for another subscription...using their own fake profiles?

The lack of standards of the owner (or administrators) and suspicious activity mean you should tread very carefully. The forums were full of vicious comments, arguments and bullying, and people have reported the same about the chat room. The profile activity is questionable, even when making allowances for the nature of the clientele, who may be hesitant or less confident about communicating. Many users simply won't reply to messages, and those that do may use terms or language that 'don't seem quite right' for the geographical area they are supposed to be from. The majority of users appear to be from the USA. It is not unusual to be one of only about 10 users online at any one time.

Review about Lunch ActuallyI was thinking to cancel my date. Previously, I kept postponing my date with my match many times but he still never gave up. At that time, I was busy, especially work and church ministry. I had this thought that registering with LA might not work for me. Review about JapanCupid.comI joined the site. Before I added any pictures I got messages saying, You are cute etc. That was impossible. I didn't even add any pictures yet. Then I did add pictures and did a three month paid subscription for $69.99. I got no less than 8 cute ladies respond and much more interested hits in a few days. (You can click on interested if you don't have a paid subscription.)
I at first just assumed they were all bots. I wanted to find someone but just said what is $69.99 anyway? I spend more than that on dinner by myself sometimes.
I complained to them that everyone was writing me with the headline, "Hi, there." Why are you letting all these bots on your site? I never really expected much.
Well one of those "bots" told me that she was currently in my hometown. I asked her out skeptical cause her english was way too good for someone born in Japan. I told myself, I'm probly getting set up for some prank but I'll go to meet her and see if this is real.
Long story short, she was a real cutie. Great personality. I'm in love. I quit the site and we are going steady. This site is a great way to get introductions to beautiful Japanese woman or whomever (a few Chinese ladies did message me that I thought were scams because they were too long intros.)

Even after this positive experience, I can say, there are bots. Why would ladies message me saying I'm cute without me even having a picture up yet. But keep positive because not all of them are bots.
You also need to understand, this is just for introductions. If you don't know how to talk to woman, don't have anything to offer them, than I'm pretty sure you are gonna strike out. These are quality woman here, not some picture bride I wanna get out of my country because I'm starving type of ladies.
